September Favorites

September! How fast ye came and went. That means that not only is it time for me to share my favorite things from this month, but it also means that Little Ghoul has been back in business for a month. I feel really good about the content and progress made so far, and am very excited for the future. For now, here are someone of my favorite things from September!

Smoothies, Chia Seeds, and Green Superfoods

I have been thinking a bit more about my diet recently and realized that I really don't eat enough fruit. In fact, I rarely eat fruit.. and I wanted to change that- and now, fruit smoothies are one of my favorite things. My typical "go-to" smoothies consists of 2 frozen bananas, a handful of frozen blueberries, a couple strawberries, 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, a scoop of greens superfood blend, and water. These have been that ingredients that are the most accessible to me, but I want to experiment with smoothie recipes that include healthful things, like ginger, leafy greens, and pineapple.

Another reason that I started regularly making fruit smoothies, was to be a vessel for this Essential Greens Superfood Blend. I eat a lot of vegetables, but definitely not enough leafy greens, so this blend is a way I've been trying to supplement. The instructions says to mix one scoop with a glass of cold water or juice, but that absolutely did not work for me. The powder didn't incorporate with the juice at all, so I was getting chunks of seaweed tasting powder. Gross. I almost gave up on it entirely. But, duh! It work perfectly in smoothies. It changes the taste a little bit, but I think that the berries are way more overpowering, so I'm not bother by the flavor at all.

Another must-have in my smoothies are chia seeds! I used to be a bit of a chia seed hater. Their consistency is weird- like little slimy things, but now, I wouldn't make a smoothie without them. They give them a nice texture and tastes neutral, and on top of that are an awesome plant-based superfood.

Now, I'm definitely not the pinnacle of health (yet), but these superfood smoothies are making me feel like I'm on my way.

Chickpea Pasta

I had no idea chickpea pasta existed, but I'm so glad it does! This discovery came when I was in Target one day, thinking, "Hm, I wonder what the healthiest pasta I can get is?" I think this Banza Chickpea Pasta may be it! Or at least, it's loaded with 25g of protein (wow!), 13g of fiber, and is gluten and soy free! As for the taste, to me, they taste close to any normal pasta noodle, but a little more "starchy" feeling. I've been using this penne for my work lunches a couple times a week and I love it because it's really filling, and I love having a lunch that's going to fill me for the rest of the work day.

Califa Farms Cold Brew & SanPellegrino Sparkling Fruit Beverage

I am sooo excited about Califia Farms Cold Brew! I had no idea that bottled coffee with plant-based milk existed until I found this, and it is just so good. I've been having their "Salted Caramel Cold Brew Coffee," which I typically have once a week at the most because it is very sweet, and normally I prefer my coffee black. When I feel like having something sweet though, this stuff is so amazing. My local Target has only stocking this flavor, but looking on the Califia Farms website, they have TONS of vegan coffee options, so I'm going to keep my eye out from now on to try to get my hands on some.

Another drink I have found and love this month is San Pellegrino Clementina Sparkling Beverage. Funnily enough, I found out about this when GrubHub mixed up my order. I wasn't mad at all though, this is very flavorful, and I love clementines, so it was a happy accident. I know San Pellegrino has a lot of flavors, and I've seen the bottles around, so I will surely be trying more in the future.

That is all my favorites for this month! Another post, in a few days. Thank you!
